Welcome to CivMil
The term Civmil has come to mean joint operational working between civilian and military agencies. This website is a reference point for those who work at that particular seam and provides practical guidance and advice to those who have the responsibility for ensuring that the Integrated Approach is properly structured, prepared for and delivered. In simple terms it seeks to help military and civilian personnel work better together.
It should not be necessary to suggest that a unified approach is probably the best way for multiple stakeholders to solve a problem. Unfortunately if that problem relates to supporting failed or failing states it remains a distant goal. Bitter experience has reminded us once again that if civilian and military agencies do not work in a co-ordinated and integrated manner then failure is certain. CivMil seeks to bridge this gap.
This website is based on experience gained across the world over the last 35 years. Whilst it is aimed at a primary audience of civmil practitioners it is hoped that some of the lessons here will be of use to all managers and planners. At the top of the screen you will find a series of thematic headings. Click on each button and you will find a series of short paragraphs related to the theme. I hope that these will give users some ideas to carry across into their own work
The site provides thoughts and ideas for civilian and military planners. In doing so it does not compromise security or break confidences and represents the personal view of the author. Readers are invited to contribute by contacting pjh@civmil.co.uk
I look forward to hearing from you.
